‘I am Ugly Betty’: Don Armando had a sister, but few know her (this happened to her)

“I am Betty, la Fea” has been a hit since its release in 1999, so much so that the lines from the soap opera are used by many in everyday life, although after all these years, there are things that few know about the story.

The Colombian telenovela is still relevant thanks to its popularity, and although “I am Betty, the ugly one” has been removed from the Netlifx catalog, there are many ways to see the story of economist Beatriz Pinzón and Armando Mendoza.

However, even with its shows, 335 episodes and even a sequel called ‘Ecomoda’, there is an important character for the plot that few people know is Don Armando’s sister.

“I’m Betty the ugly”: what happened to Camila, Don Armando’s sister?

In the production created by Fernando Gaitán for the RCN channel, Armando Mendoza’s character is the president of the family business Ecomoda, but he has a sister who could have been the owner before him.

It is chapter 11 where the story of Camila Mendoza Saenz is revealed, when the “Cuartel de las feas” tells Beatriz Pinzón how Don Armando became the president of Ecomoda.

The women say that Don Armado’s mother and Camila’s sister were the ones who got the most votes on the company’s board of directors and that’s how they managed to make Armando president.

When Betty asks them more about Camila, Bertha and Aura María tell her that Don Armando’s sister is in exile in Switzerland for wronging the family by marrying a poor man.

Camila was pregnant and wanted to stay with her husband, but it is said that her mother, Margarita Sáenz de Mendoza, did not agree and destroyed her marriage. She had to leave the country and was sent to Switzerland.

Although, as is typical of office gossip, the stories tend to have different details, as Inesta assures them that she was not banished, but that she decided to separate from the family.

“They didn’t take her out of the country. He left because he wanted to and if he hasn’t come back it’s because he doesn’t want to know anything about the family. The only one you talk to is Don Armado at times.’

Why doesn’t Don Armando’s sister appear in ‘I’m Ugly Betty’?

Although it is clarified that Don Armando usually has contact with his sister and nephew, the fate of Camila and her son is never known, the character no longer appears in the telenovela and is never mentioned by anyone again.

Camila’s story may have been forgotten because Fernando Gaitán and the producers never found a meaningful way to include her in the plot and chose to leave her out.

If “I’m Ugly Betty” gets a new season, as one of the actresses hinted, maybe the mysterious sister of Don Armando will appear and finally reveal her face and her eldest son.

The only detail that mentions the sister again is that in the soap opera sequel, Betty and Armando name their daughter Camila, after the exiled sister of Ecomoda’s family.
