Bafta 2023: ‘Nothing new on the front’ takes 7 awards; see full list of winners

‘Nothing new at the front’ film about the first world war breaks awards record

Nothing New on the Front (2022) took seven out of the 14 prizes that competed in the Bafta 2023last Sunday, the 19th. Among the main categories, the German production won as best film, best adapted script and best director for Edward Berger.

According to the newspaper The globe, the seven wins mean a record for the most awards won by a film not spoken in English. The biopic of Elvis Presley, Elvis (2022) won four awards – best cast, costume, makeup and hair and best lead actor, for Austin Butler.

“This is really extraordinary. To my fellow nominees, I am in awe of you. I am very grateful for all these moments we were able to spend together,” said butler during the ceremony.

Kate Blanchett was also featured as best actress in Tar (2022): “These remarkable performances shatter the myth that women’s experience is monolithic,” said the actress in her speech.

Among other winners are Everything Everywhere at Once (2022) as best edition, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022) as best animated film and The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) what was among the big winners, taking the awards for best British film, those for supporting actress and actor – Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan and the original script for Martin McDonagh.
