Although it sounds like fiction in every way (like other top romance movies, according to critics), it was revealed in 2014 that the character of Christian Gray could have been inspired by a real person.

In 2014 Alessandro Proto, an Italian real estate agent, gave an interview to the New York Daily News in which he assured that the author of “50 Shades of Grey”, EL James, was inspired by him to create the character of Christian Grey.
According to her testimony, she met James in Italy in 2010 while writing about real estate in Italy. They traveled together for two days, enough time for the author to take him as a literary inspiration.
And it is that as he assured, Christian Gray coincidentally shares many aspects of his person. For example, both companies have similar names. While the Italian’s is called Proto Organization Daily, the fictional millionaire’s is Gray Enterprise Holding.
On the other hand, the Italian stated that when he met the British author, he was driving an Audi R8, a car driven by Christian Gray in the fiction.
