“Someone has to explain something called CGI to him.”
Film producer and director Judd Apatow was the star of the Directors Guild of America Awards on Saturday making Tom Cruise the center of his critics while hosting the gala.
In his opening monologue, Apatow bashed Cruise on his character, interests, and even his height. “The special effects in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ were so excellent that I couldn’t even see the stack of phone books that Tom Cruise sat on to get to the flight controls,” said the director, as he has collected. Variety.
“Remember when Tom Cruise jumped up and down on the couch and we all thought, ‘What a lunatic!'” Apatow said, referring to the actor’s controversial interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” back in 2005 when he declared his love for Katie Holmes. “And now he’s riding a motorcycle off a cliff and BASE jumping and we’re all like, ‘Tom’s fine!'”
“Tom is not well,” Apatow continued. “Someone has to explain something called CGI to you. You’re 60 years old. Calm down.“.
Cruise is recognized for doing most of his own stunts and special effects on the big screen, some of which can be seen in his latest film, ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ one of the Best Picture nominees for the Oscars. of 2023.
“… Every time he does one of these new stunts, it feels like a Scientology ad.“Apatow continued to joke. “I mean, is that in Dianetics? Because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah,” Apatow continued, speaking about the actor’s religion (Dianetics is one of the beliefs followed by members of Scientology).
The filmmaker attacked Cruise’s personal decisions, including his upbringing and his stance on medication. Cruise, who has three children, two adopted with his ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman, and a daughter with Katie Holmes, has been outspoken against medication.”The only thing he seems to fear is joint custody and antidepressants.” he said. “I doubled my dose of Prozac today just for this. I doubled it! Do you think if Tom Cruise took antidepressants he’d say, ‘I’m not going to jump off a fucking cliff.’ I am rich!'”
In past interviews, Cruise has spoken about his problems with psychiatric drugs, describing them as “dangerous,” a view he said was independent of the Church of Scientology’s decision not to use “mind-altering psychotropic drugs.”
So far no representative of Cruise or the Church of Scientology have responded to these comments by the director.
