Disney+ presents the trailer for ‘The Boston Strangler’ with Keira Knightley

A new true crime thriller is about to hit streaming: Disney+ presents the trailer and poster of ‘The Boston Strangler’ with Keira KnightleyCarrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola and Chris Cooper.

‘The Boston Strangler’, which premieres on March 17 exclusively on Disney +, is a 20th Century Studios production that tells the story of Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper who becomes the first journalist to link the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more victims, Loretta tries to dig deeper into her investigation with her partner and confidante Jean Cole (Carrie Coon), but the duo must contend with the rampant sexism of the time. Despite the difficulties, McLaughlin and Cole continue to report and investigate, taking enormous personal risk by endangering their own lives in their search for the truth. Will it be one of the best horror movies on Disney+?

Written and directed by Matt Ruskin, responsible for ‘Crown Heights’ (2017), the film is produced by Ridley Scott (‘Mars’), Kevin J. Walsh (‘The Gucci House’), Michael Pruss (‘American Woman’) , Josey McNamara (‘Rising Girl’) and Tom Ackerley (‘I, Tonya’), with Michael Fottrell (‘Fast & Furious 8’) and Sam Roston serving as executive producers. Sam Roston will also serve as supervisor with Scott Free and Bronte Payne with LuckyChap.

The Boston Strangler is the name given to the murderer of 13 women in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, in the early 1960s.. The crimes were attributed to Albert DeSalvo based on his confession, details revealed in court during a separate case, and DNA evidence linking him to the latest victim. In the years after his conviction, but before the emergence of this DNA evidence, various parties investigating the crimes suggested that the murders were committed by more than one person. More than enough ingredients for what we hope will be one of the best thrillers on Disney+.

ABC Audio also premiered today the ‘Truth and Lies: The Boston Strangler’ trailera true crime podcast accompanying the film. The three-part narrative series premieres Wednesday, March 1, and represents the first collaboration between ABC Audio and 20th Century Studios, all part of the ubiquitous The Walt Disney Company. Award-winning journalist and writer Dick Lehr introduces the series based on the ABC News archives and features new interviews with family members of those implicated in the case. ‘Truth and Lies: The Boston Strangler’ is available for free on major listening platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Pandora, SiriusXM, Stitcher, TuneIn, Audacy and the ABC News app.
