Why does Jackie Chan dislike the Rush Hour movies?

Jackie Chan explained how ‘Chinese mind’ makes him skeptical of Hollywood movies

Jackie Chan has an acclaimed action film career (whether with productions of hollywood or China), but he won’t always like certain features, like the successful franchise Rush hourwhich will win a fourth chapter in theaters.

During an interview with the magazine Crosswalk in 2002 (remembered by Screen Rant), Chan admitted how he had great disappointment and confusion about Rush hour, mainly due to the fact that the taste of the American public is different from the Hong Kong public (especially in comedy). The actor even brought numbers to prove it, and revealed how the franchise was not successful in Asia.

“I like Americans and I think they will like it. Something I don’t like is success, like Rush hour, I make the film and say to my manager, ‘See? I should never do this kind of film!’ So I’m going to Asia to do [um] Asian movie,” he said. “And they call me and say, ‘jackie, big success! It’s a hit!’ I say what? so i do A rush hour 2 and i hate it! Worse than [o primeiro] Rush hour! And they call me and say, ‘It’s a hit!'”

“Then, I slowly realise: Okay, I still have a Chinese mind. I have a ‘hometown’ mind.’ I don’t understand American culture, American dialogue. So from that moment on, I really listen to everything that owen [Wilson] have to say, all that Chris Tucker has to say. I realise, ‘Okay, anything I don’t think is funny means it’s funny.'”
