With a confirmed premiere date in Brazil, the film starring Russell Crowe is based on the experiences of Father Gabriele Amorth
Last Wednesday, the 22nd, the Sony Pictures Brasil channel released the official trailer for the newest horror film starring Russell Crowe. Entitled The Pope’s Exorcistthe film still won an unpublished poster and had its premiere date confirmed.
Filled with special effects and frightening dialogues, the new Julius Avery promises to terrify horror fans with a story based on real events. Mainly because the script for the production was inspired by reports left by the priest Gabriele Amorthbetter known as the Vatican’s official exorcist.
Born in May 1925, in Italy, Gabriele Amorth he served in World War II and, with a degree in law, ended up being ordained a priest in 1954. Decades later, in 1985, the priest was appointed as the official exorcist of the Diocese of Rome.

Founder of the International Association of Exorcists, the priest died in September 2016, after being hospitalized for weeks due to lung problems. In his 91 years of life — and decades dedicated to his ecclesiastical career —, Gabriele Amorth performed more than 100,000 exorcisms. And some of them are told in the new film starring Russell Crowe.
In the role of the famous priest, the protagonist of successes like Gladiator (2000) and Noah (2014) will tackle one of the most complex cases of possession in the priest’s career. The problem is, while fighting the entity that has taken over a child’s body, Gabriele Amorth still discovers that there is a conspiracy of the Catholic Church behind the case.
