“The first time” is based on true events: the story of a girl in an all-boys school

In 2022, the Colombian series “La niña”, which is based on real events, was a hit on Netflix, so now it comes to the platform “La primera vez”, another production from this country that also tells a story inspired by reality.

“The First Time” is set in the 70s and tells the love story between Eva Samper (Francisca Estevez) and Camilo Granados (Emmanuel Restrepo), a couple of students from the José María Root District School in Bogotá.

What sets the series apart from other youth dramas, apart from the 70s context, is that it all revolves around Eva, the first female in a school of 600 boys and who with her open mind causes a stir in the school.

But the Netflix series, created by Dago García and produced by Caracol Televisión, takes influence from a true story to tell this story and show how Eva turns the heads and worlds of her companions.

The first time the Colombian Netflix series is based on true events

In the Netflix series, full of teenage drama, the events take place in 1976, when Camilo and his classmates are in their last year of high school and Eva is enrolled as the only female in the school.

The fact that the story takes place in the 70s is not accidental, since at that time in Colombia some schools began to become mixed and for Dago García, writer and producer of the series, it was an experience that marked his life.

In the words of Dago García for El Espectador on February 13, 2023, the director of “El paseo”, “La pena máxima” and “Te busco”, revealed that thanks to the Netflix series he was able to fulfill his desire to say a semi-biographical story.

García commented that he studied in the 1970s in Bogotá at the all-male Jorge Eliécer Gaitán public school, which began a pilot program to become co-educational.

As in the Netflix series, in the first year of this trial at the Dago García educational institution, only one woman was enrolled, who had to share classes with almost 700 men.

The creator even told the PRODU site on February 16 that he warned his school friends at the time that some of the things they lived together were going to be recreated in the series.

“The first time” on Netflix has 13 episodes and it is currently unknown if it will have a second season, but since it is one of the most watched on the platform in its premiere, there is a good chance that it will continue.
