The Italian artist is in negotiation with Boca Juniors
A bronze statue honoring former player Diego Maradona, removed from the city of Naples, Italy, can be displayed at the La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires.
The intention of the artist Domenico Sepe was confirmed in a press conference this Monday (27), shortly after the Italian municipality informed that the artifact has been returned to its creator due to the high value of the work.
“If it doesn’t stay in an iconic place in Naples, as I would like, the statue could probably go to the Bombonera, I’m already in talks with Boca Juniors. Any proceeds that can be withdrawn from this fund will go to charity, preferably to a hospital pediatric,” Sepe said.
In addition to the negotiations to exhibit the statue in Argentina, precisely in the popular stronghold of Boca Juniors, other Italian cities were interested in acquiring the statue, such as Casalnuovo di Napoli, Portici, Gragnano and Afragola.
“I think that in the face of critical issues we should come together to understand the problems and try to find solutions. I feel deeply hurt by this story and the first feeling was to keep the statue for me and my family because Napoli rejected it , but then I remembered that the Neapolitans love me as opposed to the institutions”, commented the artist.
The work was located in a square in front of the gates of the Distinti sector of the Napoli stadium, in Naples, but was removed from the construction site in a very short time. .
