What was your first impression of the script?
I think the only word that comes to mind is “intrigued”. I’ve never read anything so crazy. It’s like: there are two evil geniuses working here. They made me think, “Do I get it? Maybe I really don’t understand. But you know what? They intrigued me. And I like challenges.” What we’re constantly looking for are roles you’ve never played before, that keep you hooked. They sent me the script and then I went to see Daniels’ film //Swiss Army Man//. Intrigued would be the right word! I was so mesmerized by it. So I felt very compelled to meet these Daniels. We had a reunion maybe a year and a half, two years before we really started our journey. I like to trust my instincts about people. I love being able to look into their eyes and realize that they’re not just saying words to me, that’s what makes them passionate. It’s not just a commissioned job. And that’s how I felt about them. I mean, in a weird way, it felt like it was written for me…
