The spin-off series ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ is in a 7-month “creative hiatus” in which it will be completely rewritten.
The Serie ‘Dune: The Sisterhood‘, the spin-off of the Dune universe created for the big screen by Denis Villeneuve, has seen how its director and one of its protagonists leave the production after a “creative break” occurs that can last up to seven months.
The HBO Max series began production in November of last year and the first two episodes were to be directed by Johan Renckexecutive producer of ‘Chernobyl’, and written by Diane Ademu-John, which would also serve as co-producer. Both have abandoned the project leaving Alison Schapker as the sole showrunner.
Renck deleted all the posts from his Instagram related to the series and it is rumored that his departure is due to his vision was far from that established by Denis Villeneuve in the films.
However, HBO maintains that this is nothing more than a “pre-programmed” pause in advance and that “Johan Renck has completed his work on the series and a new director will be brought on board; by mutual agreement, while Johan is moving on to other projects. Furthermore, Shirley Henderson will leave the series and will no longer play Tula Harkonnen”, although they admit that “some creative changes are being made to the production in an effort to create the best series possible and stay true to the source material.”
Shirley Henderson’s departure could be due to these creative differences, but other sources suggest that the seven-month break will affect the schedule of a large part of the cast and that it will not be the only one to have to leave the series given the impossibility of making it compatible with other projects.
Therefore, the viability of ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ is right now on the brink of the abyss and in the future of the franchise we can only confirm the premiere of the sequel ‘Dune 2’which will once again feature Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård and will add Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Christopher Walken and Austin Butler, the favorite to win the 2023 Oscar for Best Actor.
‘Dune 2’ will be released in cinemas around the world on November 3, 2023.
