We review what we know about ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’, the series that will serve as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s films about the Frank Herbert universe.
we review everything we know about ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’the series that will serve as a prequel to ‘Dune’ (2021) and the future ‘Dune: Part 2’ (2023) new adaptation of the immortal work of Frank Herbert at the hands of director Denis Villeneuve.
‘Dune’ became not only one of Timothée Chalamet’s 10 best filmsbut in one of the most viewed titles of 2021, achieving the second best premiere of the year in Spain, only behind the 2.8 million obtained by ‘Fast & Furious 9’ (Justin Lin, 2021) in the first days of its premiere .
This positive result seems to encourage the journey of a film that needed good results to finish being narrated and that, now, will also have a series that further explores the ruckus between the Atreides and the Harkonnens while the list is expanded with all Denis Villeneuve films.
‘Dune: The Sisterhood’: Release date
The production of the spin-off, a candidate to sneak among the best series on HBO Max, began last November, but HBO has halted filming for the next seven months and ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ is on the verge of disaster after the abandonment of its director and its protagonist. It will be canceled?
‘Dune: The Sisterhood’: Synopsis
‘Dune: The Sisterhood’ will be set 10,000 years before the events of ‘Dune’ and is based on the novel ‘Sisterhood of Dune’ by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. According to its official synopsis, the series “follows the Harkonnen sisters as they fight against the forces that threaten the future of humanity and establishes the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”
‘Dune: The Sisterhood’: Team
Diane Ademu-John was the creator, co-director and executive producer of ‘Dune: The Sisterhood’. Johan Renck (‘Chernobyl’) was going to direct the first two episodes and would be an executive producer. The two have left the project due to typical “creative differences”. Alison Schapker remains sole showrunner and will be in charge of rewriting the pilot completely.
Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron and Cait Collins sign on as executive producers alongside Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert of the Frank Herbert estate in an HBO Max and Legendary TV co-production.
‘Dune: The Sisterhood’: Cast
Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson were the first two confirmations of the seriesas published Variety.
Watson will play Valya Harkonnen and Henderson will play Tula Harkonnen. Character descriptions say that the two sisters “have risen to power in the Sisterhood, a secret organization of women who will eventually become the Bene Gesserit.”
However HBO has announced that Henderson has abandoned the project and that his Tula Harkonen character will be reimagined. More performers may follow the same path due to scheduling problems due to the seven-month break in filming.
Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds and Chloe Lea They also signed for the series.
Boussnina will play Princess Ynez, described as “an independent young princess facing the pressures of her responsibility as heir to the Golden Lion Throne.”
Brune-Franklin will play Mikaela, “a strong-willed Fremen woman who serves the royal family while longing for a homeworld she’s never known.”
Cunningham plays Sister Jen, “a fierce and unpredictable Sisterhood acolyte-in-training who rarely reveals her emotional core.”
Hinds is Sister Emeline, “a zealous acolyte, scion of a long line of martyrs, who brings a fervent religion to her Sisterhood upbringing.”
Lea plays Lila, “the youngest Sisterhood acolyte with an empathy deep beyond her years.”
