The service hit a milestone on Monday 3, compared to its biggest competitor’s 82 million tracks and podcasts.
AP – Last Monday, 3, the Apple Music reached an important milestone, offering a staggering 100 million songs on the streaming service. Every day, 20,000 songwriters post songs on the service.
“That’s a giant number,” Rachel Newman, Apple’s global head of content, told AP. “More than ever in the history of music, today it’s easy to create, record and release music and we think it’s all great.”
THE Apple Music claims that the milestone consolidates it as the largest music catalog in the world, with over 80 million songs Youtube musicthe 82 million songs and podcasts of Spotify and the 90 million songs of Amazon Music.
While it’s unknown which song led Apple Music to hit the mark, there’s a good chance it isn’t from the US, nor is it sung in English, as the service sees more and more songs coming from all over the world.
Diversity
When the iTunes launched, the service had music in 200 languages and dialects, with half of the content in English. Now, 40% of Apple Music’s offerings are in English, and the number of languages and dialects reaches 350. The platform’s top rankings – which were once dominated by the US, UK, Canada and Australia – are now full of songs from Japan, Colombia, Ghana, Nigeria and South Korea.
The milestone has rapidly approached as the world has become more digitized. The number of songs on Apple Music has doubled in the past four years (from 50 million in 2018), with the pandemic accelerating the process as isolated people at home seek creative outlets.
The Apple company. launched iTunes in 2003, with 200,000 songs powering its iPods, and launched Apple Music seven years ago, now for iPhones, with subscribers in 167 countries and regions. Launched late compared to its competitors, the service seems to want to make up for lost time by investing in a more robust catalog, as well as investing in the quality of its content, offering technology Dolby Atmos in your songs
The company also says its customers aren’t just hearing the news – they’re also exploring the catalogs of old artists. In 2015, when Apple Music launched, the top 1,000 songs accounted for 20% of streams. They now account for 10%. The song’s average release date is March 7, 2017, a number dragged into the past by listeners going back in time.
the service of streaming Music celebrates the brand with the launch on Monday of a new series called Apple Music today. The streamer’s editorial team tells the story of a new or old song, now with 100 million songs to choose from.
“We believe this is an opportunity for us to help all of our subscribers connect to music they may have forgotten or were unaware of,” Newman said. “And, equally important, to find a new platform for storytelling. We believe that’s one of the things we’re doing to preserve art in music.” / TRANSLATION OF RENATO PRELORENTZOU
