Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri complete the top 3. Gabriel Bortoleto starts last after failing to record a valid time.
In the final part of the season, Formula 1 held the penultimate qualifying session for Sprint at the United States Grand Prix, in Austin, Texas. The ranking took place this Friday (17th) and saw Max Verstappen in pole position, with 1:32.143. The four-time champion was followed by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, both from McLaren. Gabriel Bortoletto will start last, after failing to set any time.
In SQ1, all drivers used the medium compound. Hulkenberg, Albon, Hadjar, Bearman, Ocon, Bortoleto, Tsunoda, Lawson, Colapinto and Sainz were the first to put their cars on the track. Racing Bulls driver Isaack Hadjar made a mistake at Turn 1 and ended up losing time on his lap. Hulkenberg took the lead from the start, with 1:34.758, but this was already taken by Verstappen with 1:34.758, setting the best first sector. The four-time world champion was followed by Hamilton and Piastri. On his first lap, Brazilian Gabriel Bortoletto went over the edge of the track and was unable to set a fast lap to set the time. The first session saw little traffic on the track. As a result, Oliver Bearman, Franco Colapinto, Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon and Gabriel Bortoleto were excluded from SQ2.
SQ2 with Max Verstappen setting the best second sector and clocking 1:33.163, taking the lead, followed by George Russell. Lando Norris opened a fast lap and took the lead, setting the best third sector and taking the lead from the four-time champion. Up to that point Lawson, Hadjar, Gasly and Hulkenberg had not yet set their times. Hamilton and Leclerc almost missed SQ3, but managed to get through. In this session the following were eliminated: Liam Lawson, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly and Kimi Antonelli.
It was George Russell who opened SQ3 on soft tyres, clocking 1:32.888. Until now the Mercedes driver was accompanied by Sainz and Albon, both from Mercedes. In one fast lap, Lando Norris managed a better second and third sectors, but Max Verstappen overtook him and finished first, overtaking the McLaren driver and securing pole.
