Among the famous actresses who disappeared from the “Star Wars” universe overnight is Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune in “The Mandalorian,” but her character was written out for the third season.
Of the most beloved characters in the series, aside from Baby Yoda (who even science has proven why they love him so much), Cara Dune was one of the world’s favorites for her strong character and sense of justice.
Cara Dune appeared from the first season of “The Mandalorian” and formed a friendship and alliance with Mando/Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), but the controversy surrounding actress and veteran Gina Carano caused her to be fired from the series.

Cara Dune’s character was very important to ‘The Mandalorian’, being an ally to Mando and slowly rising through the ranks as a woman of the law. There were even rumors that he could star in his own spin off.
However, Gina Carano was fired from the Star Wars universe after she posted comments on Twitter that compared the Nazi persecution of Jews to the criticism she received from Republican supporters.
Despite the bad reception and criticism she received, Gina Carano showed no remorse for her words, so LucasFilm and Disney decided to fire her from ‘The Mandalorian’.
But since the former MMA fighter’s departure came after the second season and before filming began on the third season, there were many doubts about how “The Mandalorian” would explain her absence.
Thus, in the first chapter of the third season, the whereabouts and what happened to Cara Dune are described in detail. When Mando visits his friend Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) in the town of Nevarro, he asks him about Dune, who was the town’s sheriff.
Crow tells him that after capturing the Imperial villain Moff Gideon, Cara Dune turned him in to the law and was rewarded with a new position, inducting him into the New Republic Special Forces.
This explanation is in line with previous plans for his character and his role in a new Star Wars series where he would be a member of the New Republic police.
The series starring Cara Dune was to be called “Rangers of the New Republic” and would be about a group of officers trying to bring order to the galaxy after the fall of the Empire.
Executive producer Rick Famuyiwa spoke to Deadline on February 27, 2023 about the matter and said that there was a reason not to cast another actress for the role of Cara Dune and leave her out of the story.
Famuyiwa explained that the third season focuses on Mando and his lineage and history as a Mandalorian, so a character like Cara Dune would have little effect or things to do in this story arc of “The Mandalorian.”
If “Rangers of the New Republic,” “The Mandalorian” season 4 or any other Star Wars series in the future includes Cara Dune, the character will almost certainly return, but will be played by a new actress.
