The interim coach of the Brazilian national team, Ramon Menezes, has called up five players of the Under-20 team that won the South American title in the category under his command for the first-team friendly against Morocco on 25 March, the first duel of the selection after the Qatar’s World Cup quarter-final elimination against Croatia.
Ramon, who spearheaded the under-20s’ victorious season in the South American league in Colombia, has called up goalkeeper Mycael, 18, who plays for Athletico Paranaense; right-back Arthur, 19, who plays for América Mineiro; defender Robert Renan, 19, currently at Zenit, Russia; midfielder Andrey Santos, 18, who was loaned to Vasco after being recently transferred by the Rio de Janeiro club to Chelsea; and striker Vitor Roque, 18, who plays for Athletico Paranaense.
In addition to them, the interim manager has also called up defensive midfielders André, 21, from Fluminense, and João Gomes, 22, who recently moved from Flamengo to English side Wolvwehampton, for the first time. Two highlights of current Brazilian champion Palmeiras have been called up, midfielder Raphael Veiga and striker Rony.
On the other hand, goalkeeper Alisson, who started in the Brazilian season in Qatar, was not called up by the interim coach of the national team. Protagonist of Brazilian football in recent years, Neymar has also not been called up because he is recovering from an injury.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not yet defined who will replace Tite at the helm of the national team. The body is studying the possibility of waiting half a year to sign a name from European football. The Italian Carlo Ancelotti, of Real Madrid, is one of the hypothesized names.
Brazil will face World Cup semi-finalists Morocco in Qatar in the Moroccan city of Tangier, in the same stadium that hosted the Club World Cup matches played in February.
