While his latest film The Fabelmans (in theaters now) explores his childhood and discovery of film, Steven Spielberg recently opened up about his career on Stephen Colbert’s mic.
The director of Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Schindler’s List fame says he usually doesn’t re-watch his old movies, but there are exceptions, including one of his most famous feature films:
“I’m not going to see all my movies after they’re done. I don’t like Gloria Swanson at Dusk Boulevard holding private screenings of her movies.”Steven Spielberg explained.

“So I don’t look back that often. But every now and then there’s a movie I watch with my kids. I want to be there with them when they see ET for the first time. I don’t want it to be. They see it without their dad, especially with those scenes Compared to those that are terrible from the start.”
The story of a small alien stranded on Earth and captured by a young boy, ET became a huge box office hit when it was released in 1982. Acclaimed by critics and audiences, it also appears to be one of Spielberg’s proudest films:

Sometimes I see things I was going to do that I didn’t do, and sometimes I see ideas that would have been better with all these years of hindsight. But overall, ET is a pretty perfect movie. This is one of them. I have made several films that I can watch and re-watch. (…) I shot about 34 films (…) And there are 5 or 6 that I can review, but I usually don’t.”
What other movies does Spielberg watch from time to time? The director does not specify. Still, Little Alien averaged a 4.8 out of 5 for press and a 4.3 out of 5 for viewers on AlloCiné.
