Gloria Pires Talks Shopping Addicted Character in Movie ‘Desapega!’

in the feature film , Gloria Pires plays Rita, a woman with CBT (compulsive shopping disorder). The character says everything has been “under control” for years, but she suffers relapses over the course of the storyline.

Stating that she is not a consumerist, the actress says that the character’s actions are contrary to her behavior in real life. According to her, one of her biggest difficulties has been taking on “the humor she adds” instead of judging people who suffer from these disorders.

I am not a consumerist. Same! If I buy something it’s because I need it. I have a stylist friend who even argues when she sees my closet, because I have the basics, that’s what I use. […] The challenge was not to judge compulsive behavior. Understand the mechanism and approach situations with compassion.

Although she does not show compulsive – nor consumerist – behaviors, Gloria claims to keep important objects of her trajectory and her family. “I am extremely selective about the acquisition […] I have no difficulty letting go of things that no longer make sense to me,” the actress said.

The film is directed by Hsu Chien and is already showing in Brazilian cinemas.

I think that’s why I have Christmas trauma. My father never bought gifts for me and my two brothers. Whether it’s children’s day, birthday, Christmas. He said it was absurd to spend money on it, silly […] When I went to live alone, this came to my mind a lot, because the desire was to decorate the environment, to have things in the space. Then there was a party, I went out shopping because I wanted to fill everything, the wardrobe, the fridge. I’ve never had this minimalist thought of existence, of living with a pillow in the living room and anything goes.
