2019’s ‘Pokémon: Detective Pikachu’ is finally in talks to direct its sequel. According to VarietyJonathan Krisel, from the “Portlandia” series, is the name chosen by Legendary Entertainment.
“Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the talking character who develops a side of ‘Sherlock Holmes’ in the film. He teams up with Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), a down on his luck Pokémon trainer who wants to find his missing father.
The cast also included Kathryn Newton, currently in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, Suki Waterhouse, Ken Watanabe, Rita Ora and others.
The film was the first in the Pikachu game series and became the most profitable film based on a game at the time, surpassing Duncan Jone’s Warcraft: It earned US$436 million (about R$1.640 billion). The production was also the best-received video game film by domestic and international critics.
And probably even more successful for the franchise. In addition to the film’s sequel, Netflix recently announced a new stop-motion animated series titled “Pokémon Concierge,” which will debut on the streaming service initially in Japan. A new series, spin-off of the film, was also mentioned by the platform in 2021, but there are no content updates yet.
