The 3-1 victory of Corinthians over Santo André, this Saturday, for the 12th day of the Paulista Championship, was special for the young Caetano. The defender was a first-time starter for Timão and celebrated the feat a lot.
“I’m very happy, I don’t even know what to say. I haven’t understood yet. Happy to be back, playing with Balbuena, Gil, Bruno Méndez. I think I did well and safely. Fernando called me after training, while I was making a complement. I knew the time would come, but when he spoke I was very happy, I ran to tell my family. I don’t even know what I told him at that moment. Thanks for the opportunity,” he said.
The 23-year-old also revealed that he will keep his match shirt in a special place.
“It’s kept here, I haven’t even let it be washed, it’s sweaty. The people of Santo André asked to change it, but they said no, I already know where I put it,” he said.
Caetano revealed himself in the youth categories of Corinthians, but lived on several loans. He passed through Oeste, Coritiba, São Caetano, CRB and Goiás.
Now, the defender is hoping to still have a chance in the quarter-finals. The FPF has not yet set the date and time for the next stage, but has reserved 11 and 12 March.
Timão finished the state’s first stage at the top of group C, with 22 points. The club is now awaiting group results to find out who will be their opponent in the quarter-finals. At present, São Bento, with 10, is second in the group, followed closely by Ituano, with nine, and Ferroviária, with eight.
In the general standings, coach Fernando Lázaro’s team moved up to third place, but could still move back to fifth if São Paulo and Água Santa win on Sunday. Tricolore (4th, with 20 points) visits Botafogo-SP. Neptune (5th, with 20) faces São Bernardo, away from home.
