On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger miraculously landed his US Airways plane, which had suffered engine failure, in the icy waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 passengers on board. While he is welcomed by public opinion and the media, an investigation begins that threatens his reputation and career…
Indeed, Clint Eastwood explores this aspect of the story in Sully, his biopic adapted from the book.higher dutyCo-wrote the pilot and author Jeffrey Zaslow. Particularly effective, its alternate editing manages to maintain the tension between the investigation’s development and the crash for 1 hour and 36 minutes.
Without getting into a purely spectacular film of the disaster, Sally still relies on a breathless and anxiety-inducing reconstruction of a real Airbus A320 with a five-camera system running simultaneously.
The director also invited the real lifeguards of the time to return in front of the camera to repeat their prowess, thus emphasizing the spirit of solidarity that the captain never ceases to salute. On screen, he carries the qualities of Tom Hanks, whose sober interpretation is matched only by the noble modesty of his character.
On AlloCiné, Sally has an average viewer rating of 4.1 out of 5.
