If there was one event that marked the 2022 Oscars, it was Will Smith’s slap to Chris Rock on stage.
This came after the comedian made a joke about the baldness of Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia areata (which is why her hair can’t grow).
Although the actor publicly apologized and his wife expressed her desire for a reconciliation between the two, the comedian relived what happened in a Netflix special. That’s what he said.
Chris Rock Relives Will Smith’s Slap at Oscars 2022
On March 4, the “Grown Ups” actor starred in Netflix’s first fully live-action show: a stand-up comedy called “Selective Outrage.”
According to “Variety” magazine, his new routine mostly referred to the incident on the evening of March 27, 2022, however, only at the end did he directly address the issue.
One of the things he revealed was that the slap hurt:
In the same joking tone, he mentioned the physical difference between him and Will Smith:
He later revealed that his show was named after the actor from ‘The Prince of Rap’:
He further explained that he believed it had “nothing to do” with the actor’s bravery that night. Instead, he attributed his actions to the anger Smith would feel over the relationship between Jada Pinkett Smith and August Alsina, which they went public with in July 2020:
On the fallout from the “Red Table Talk” show, Rock said:
The comedian also talked about how his perception of his co-star has changed since the 2022 Oscars:
That comment was a reference to the actor’s most recent film, in which he played a slave fighting for his freedom.
The truth is, this isn’t the first time Chris Rock has used Will Smith’s slap for a comedy routine. Already last July he had expressed on a show that he does not feel like a victim of the coup, something he repeated on this occasion.

To close his monologue, the comedian answered why he didn’t hit his attacker that night: he owes it all to a lesson from his parents.
