“The wildest time you’re going to spend, at the movies, all year.”
The fourth film in the action film saga, ‘John Wick’, is just around the corner. With its premiere scheduled for March 24, some fans and critics have had the opportunity to attend an early screening of the film, which has unleashed madness among its participants. (In the best of ways, of course.)
‘John Wick 4’ comes to theaters after ‘John Wick: Parabellum’, the third release of the franchise. Our favorite assassin, played by Keanu Reeves, is back accompanied, once again, by Bill Skarsgard, Lawrence Fishburne, Lance Reddick and ian mcshane. In addition, new faces will join the cast, among which we find Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Clancy Brown, and Marko Zaror.
The film, which shares a director with the previous three (Chad Stahelski), has been written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch.
From ColliderSteven Weintraub wrote of the film saying, “Literally, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after such crazy scenes. You are not prepared for what Keanu Reeves does.”
Additionally, Theresa Lacson, also from Collideradded: “‘John Wick 4′ is a fest of action, blood and murder, and that’s what makes it good! I don’t normally like this much action in movies, but Stahelski makes every frame count.. Yeah, it’s ridiculous. Yes, it’s video game logic. Yes, I will see her again.”
Other attendees stopped to refer to the length of the film. However, the 3 hours of footage didn’t seem intimidating to anyone. In fact, they have almost been praised as a plus, within the great reception of the tape.
Liz Shanon Miller, via consequencestated: “The three hours of ‘John Wick 4’ make a lot of sense when you’re going SO hard. Just the third act… Simply glorious.”
Eric Eisenberg’s CinemaBlendwho was somewhat skeptical of the nearly 180-minute premiere, ended up joining Liz Shanon Miller and praising the film and its cast: “I had my reservations about the almost three hours of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, but the movie deserves them. It is an epic with a clever pacing that never lets the action get tiringand the scenes are phenomenal. Great cast of new actors, but Donnie Yen is the MVP.”
Eisenberg has not been the only one who has highlighted the cast that accompanies Reeves in the fourth chapter of the saga. The film critic, Courtney Howard, shared the following on her twitter: “The cast of #JohnWick4 is full of titans. Donnie Yen: as sharp and fast as ever. Hiroyuki Sanada: amazing. Marko Zaror: a relentless beast. Scott Adkins does some deep character work. The way that Rina Sawayama does not break eye contact when removing kimono I got goosebumps.”
Accompanying all these comments that described ‘John Wick 4’ as “one of the best action movies ever”, “the wildest time you’re going to spend, at the movies, all year” either “The best of the entire franchise.”
The answer seems unanimous. A premiere is coming like few others. Keanu Reeves’ new adventure has kicked off, and his arrival in theaters seems to become one of the events of the year. We’re already looking forward to it and have our imaginations on the future of the franchise, with ‘John Wick 5’ already confirmed and underway, and its spin offs, ‘Ballerina’ and ‘The Continental’, looming on the horizon.
