Interviewed by ‘Conversa’, the vice president also talks about the value of his retirement and comments on the impact of the death of his son Thomaz on his faith
In a relaxed chat on ‘Conversa com Bial’, earlier this Wednesday (8), Geraldo Alckmin was asked if he does television, after embittering the 4th place in the 2018 elections, due to “budgetary issues”.
“No, because I was a volunteer,” replied the vice president. “You haven’t been paid?”, Pedro Bial was amazed. “But Ronnie didn’t pay you a dime or anything?”
An anesthetist since 1979, Alckmin presented a fortnightly health advice panel on the extinct “Todo Seu”, a nightly program on TV Gazeta de São Paulo hosted by Ronnie Von, now on RedeTV.
The politician denounced another unpaid job in front of the cameras. “Not even in the Band. After (from Ronnie) I went to Band with Silvia Poppovic, Lacombe. Nothing!” He referred to ‘Aqui na Band’, taken off the air in 2020.
Without a warrant, the former SP governor returned to medicine. “Since I gave up all pensions (from elected positions), I only have INPS, R$ 6,000. So I went back to teaching.”
Since she didn’t want to work as an anesthetist again, “because it’s too stressful,” Alckmin said she took an acupuncture class at USP and started seeing patients.
Today, at the age of 70, he accumulates the vice presidency with the position of Minister of Industry and Commerce, and collaborates in the political articulation of the government.
He appeared on TV daily. No longer in the role of health and pardon columnist, but as one of the most powerful men in the land. His salary is R $ 39,293.32, the same as President Lula.
In another part of the Globo conversation, Bial asked if the death of his son Thomaz in a helicopter crash, aged 31, in 2015 had shaken the practicing Catholic Alckmin’s faith.
“I’d say it’s gotten stronger,” the vice president said. “There isn’t a day that I don’t think about Thomaz. Lu, same thing. It makes no sense, Bial, for people to believe that we came into this world to live, some have children, then they get old, they get sick, they just die,” he said.
“There is no logic. There is evidently a bigger plan. So I’m a person of faith.”
