The 2023 Oscars ceremony takes place this Sunday, February 12, and speculation about who will take the most coveted statuettes in world cinema is only growing. Therefore, critics establish favorites and bookmakers keep pointing out the odds of each candidate winning the prizes.
Oscars 2023 Favorites for Those in a Hurry:
Thus, we can find in this which categories seem to be more defined, and that is what we will bring in this text. Of course, from these alleged definitions and almost certainties arise great upheavals, which occur every year at the awards.
So no matter how safe an award seems, we’re only sure of it when the host announces the winner — and sometimes not even that, after all. La La Land did not win, and yes Moonlight.
Even so, speculating and pointing out favorites is part of the magic of awards, even so we know when a big upset happens. Therefore, we consulted American bookmakers, as well as a specialized site oscar thermometerwhich takes into account wins in other awards and expert and critic analysis to determine the favourites.
But in which categories do we have absolute leaders in the fight against favoritism at the 2023 Oscars?
The Best Picture category seems to increasingly indicate a win for All everywhere at the same time. Sci-Fi movie is the favorite to take the top category of the night (and many more). You can find out more about this film here.
Among the acting categories, only Best Supporting Actor has an overall favorite. This is Ke Huy Quan who is also nominated for the film All everywhere at the same time. The Vietnamese actor is such a favorite that a win by anyone else would probably be the biggest surprise of the night. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are also the favorites for the Best Director award for the film.
In the other acting categories, favoritism disputes between Brendan Fraser and Austin Butler (best actor), Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett (best actress) and Angela Bassett, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kerry Condon (best supporting actress) are very heated.
Other absolute favorites are Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, in the Best Animation category; and German Nothing new on the front, among the candidates for Best International Film. The two Netflix films appear to be other almost unanimous awards among critics and pundits.
The two categories of scripts are pretty split, with All everywhere at the same time AND The Banshees of Inisherin dispute between the original scripts, e Among women AND Nothing new on the front appearing disputing favoritism in an adapted screenplay.
There isn’t much favoritism between the technical categories, with only the visual effects seeming to lean towards a win by Avatar: The Way of Water.
As already mentioned above, favoritism is nothing more than speculation, and anything can happen when the 2023 Oscar winners are revealed on Sunday night, March 12th. Find out how to watch the awards here.
