The sixth film in the Scream series has reason to be more brutal, but at the same time quite funny, still carrying several references to terror
Scream 6 just premiered in theaters and the wait was short since the release of the fifth film. At that time the saga was more alive than ever and seems to have returned permanently to the delight of slasher fans.
In Scream 6we see the same cast from the last film, such as Tara and Sam Carpenter (Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding), survivors of the Ghost faceplus Gale Winters (Courteney Cox), who has been shining in the franchise since the first feature film.
The new film in the saga is the boldest yet, allowing itself to be as brutal as it is funny. The storyline also features great cameos, references to past films, and offers a quick lesson in slasher films and franchises.
Warning: This review may contain Scream 6 spoilers!

great cameos
Before we start talking about the actual film, it is necessary to point out the amazing special appearances in the feature film. The first is from actress Samara Weaving, the first victim of Ghostface, already little known in horror cinema. She has participated in films such as The nanny 1 and 2, beyond fantastic Bloody wedding.
Even in a scene of Scream 6 which takes place in the subway, we see a person dressed as the protagonist of Bloody wedding, performed by Weaving. The costume is nothing less than a wedding dress, hair tied back, and an ammo vest.
Which is also present in the new film of the franchise Panic is Kirby Reed, character played by Hayden Panettiere, one of the survivors of Scream 4. Now an adult, she is an FBI agent looking for Tara and Melissa to solve yet another wave of Ghostface murders.

Another interesting participation in the feature film is Billy Loomis, character of Skeet Ulrich. In addition to being the first Ghostface of the franchise together with Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), he is also Sam’s father and appears in the delusions of the protagonist, who always wonders if the attraction to murder is something genetic.
Further and further away from the original films, the franchise has already said goodbye to Dewey (David Arquette) in Scream 5, who died at the hands of Ghostface, and Sidney (Neve Campbell), who is alive, far away and not participating in the new film. Now it’s up to Gale Weathers to have a minimal stake in the franchise, practically useless.

twists
the franchise Panic he proves he knows how to renew himself at the beginning of the sixth film, bringing an unexpected twist. Again referring to the films of horror and fan of the genre, Samara Weaving plays Laura, a film teacher who is killed by one of her students, Jason (Tony Revolori).
Along with a friend, Jason planned to be the new Ghostface, but their identities were revealed early in the film, shortly after the first death. What happened next, then, was that other villains had the same plans and managed to carry them out better, killing the young ones first.
more brutal
Between jokes and dialogues full of references to horror productions, Scream 6 manages to entertain even if it is a crime film. We see the inspirations not only at the beginning, with the two young men who have almost become Ghostfaces who show themselves fans of horror cinema, which has only been renewed over time, above all due to the rise of content on true crimes.
Who also teaches a film course, in perfectly placed dialogues to talk about current films, like him Panic, is the character Mindy. When she teams up with colleagues, including Tara and Sam, to devise a plan to escape Ghostface, she cites all the clichés and formulas used to develop a good horror film these days.

Putting aside the fun, Scream 6 it’s more brutal, with confrontation scenes that continue to take the breath away from those on the other side of the screen, including stabs, falls and even gunshots. Even more so than the previous films, the new feature is not afraid to bring protagonists who take pleasure in having violently killed in self-defense, becoming ever more willing to go on with life without even a bit of remorse.
Perhaps the film’s only flaw is that it has too many survivors. People who had been stabbed and beaten countless times and were bleeding profusely were able to get up and walk around peacefully after the attacks. It’s like the movie forgot that it was going to be even more brutal, giving more people a chance to survive for the next movie.
