After former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) admitted to withholding the second package of jewels donated by Saudi Arabia, ministers at the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) are considering asking that the luxury items be returned from the former Chief Executive. The information comes from the newspaper The globe.
In 2016, the Court ruled that assets presented by other governments are not very personal items and, therefore, must remain in the possession of the Brazilian state. This decision would therefore serve as a legal basis for asking the former president to return the items.
This Wednesday, the former president admitted, for the first time, that he had incorporated jewels presented by the Saudi Arabian government into his personal collection. Among the objects of the Swiss luxury brand Chopard are a pen, a ring, a watch, a pair of cufflinks and a kind of rosary. The statements were made to CNN Brasil.
The jewels entered Brazil in October 2021 at the hands of the entourage of the then Minister of Mines and Energy (MME), Bento Albuquerque.
