The teacher’s goal is to introduce the former player and demonstrate that the students can be protagonists of their own story
A public school teacher in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, adapted a photo of Pelé so that a blind student could see the face of the King of Football, who died in December 2022, a victim of complications from cancer.
The teacher Marcela Pimentel Leopoldino appears in a video passing the student’s hand in the drawing adapted for people with visual impairments and explaining the characteristics of the former player step by step. The video went viral on social media.
In an interview with ‘g1’, the teacher explained that the art was part of a project called ‘The Boy Who Was a Protagonist in His History’, which aimed to introduce Pele to students aged 9-10.
– He already knew Pele, because he listened to the articles [esportivas] and I know a lot [o Rei do Futebol]. The result was exciting. [O aluno] seeing through his hands every detail of the idol, he could not help but get excited – said the teacher.

The teacher also said that the King of Football was used as an example to make students feel the protagonist of their own story.
– The student must be the protagonist. Pelé was the protagonist of his life, because he came from a poor childhood, with many difficulties and, despite this, he didn’t give up. He fought and he arrived. Putting Pele as a reference is even easier for students to understand,” he said.
