Mohammed Ben Sulayemformer pilot of rally and president of International Automobile Federation (FIA)lost son Saif Muhammad bin Salim, 29, in a road accident in Dubai. The information was confirmed and deplored by the UAE Automobile Federation in a statement released on Thursday.
“We ask God to forgive him and have mercy on him. May God make him dwell in large gardens and grant patience to his family. We express our condolences to his Excellency Mohammed ben Sulayem and also to his entire family ”, reads the text published by the entity.
Saif followed in his father’s footsteps and also had a racing career, but limited himself to smaller circuits. Between 2016 and 2017 he also competed in the Formula 4 of the United Arab Emirates and obtained a seventh place as best result in the races of the category. According to the Arab press, he will be cremated after prayers in a Dubai cemetery.
A rally competitor between the 1980s and 1990s, Mohammed Ben Sulayem was elected FIA president in 2020 and replaced Frenchman Jean Todt in office. Until he was elevated to the top position of the international federation, he held senior management positions within the Emirati racing system. He has also been Vice-President of the FIA, in a mandate that began in 2008.
