The first episode of the HBO flagship show adapted to the famous video game begins with some normal: the spread of cordyceps, parasitic fungal infection, which will soon destroy humanity, has not yet appeared. However, the eagle’s viewers found the prophetic detail of the coming disaster.
According to the GQ and The Gamer, at 9:50 in the scene, Sarah (Niko Parker), a teenage daughter in Joel (Pedro Pascal) is in school and noticed a classmate who moves on many times. Then the girl’s bracelet catches the light and shakes Sarah when her wrist gently shrinks … and maybe uncontrollably?
According to Tiktok, the user @Lifeofdevint says it will be a sign of an “early infection” that coincided with the expert’s speech, as early as the episode 1, the fungus that damages ants in the brain, thus affecting the nervous system. Also, later in the episode, it is confirmed that muscle spasms are one of the first signs of the disease.
The first indicator that the viewer meets in the pilot that people have already begun to infect it, when Sarah’s old neighbor is making the taught movements behind him. This same neighbor is the first infected person to see Sarah later in the episode – or so most of us thought. Thus, this moment in the school will prove that the first victim was hiding in front of him, especially because muscle spasms could take 24 hours to make it visible.
