Timão’s No8 suffered a medial collateral strain in his right knee against Santo André and is out of the Paulistão quarter-finals
Renato Augusto, recovering from a medial collateral strain in his right knee, will miss Corinthians on Sunday (12), against Ituano, in the quarterfinals of the Paulistão.
Bruno Mazziotti, head of the health and performance department of the Corinthian and personal friend of Renato, highlighted the evolution of the midfielder in recent days, but avoided nailing the return of the number 8 in a possible semi-final. Typically, recovery from this injury takes two to three weeks.
– The evolution of the injury during the week has been very important, it has allowed us to start working intensely in the gym, and the next steps are already advancing the process in field work. Renato has evolved well, according to the possibilities of recovering from this injury. Let’s hope that in the coming days the news will be more positive than today – Mazziotti told Corinthians TV.
Timão’s head physio explained that the club had exercised caution in assessing Renato Augusto, who has already suffered from physical problems over the past two years, but highlighted the squad’s strength to make up for his absence. Paulinho should take the number 8 seat.
– We had the precaution and the care to ride in the best possible way, since we are in an important moment of the Paulistão finals. We are in a calm situation based on our needs, the whole cast is practically available, this facilitates the decisions of coach and athlete – concluded Mazziotti.
Renato Augusto was replaced in the first half of the victory over Santo André after suffering two cracks in his right knee. At first, both Mazziotti and manager Fernando Lázaro believed the player would not be a concern in the duel against Ituano, but the pain persisted and tests confirmed the stress.
The trend is for the 35-year-old midfielder to do one-on-one work with the ball early next week and already work with the rest of the squad on the eve of a potential semi-final. The most likely scenario is that Corinthians face São Paulo, at the Allianz Parque, with the rival in charge.
