‘Scream 6’: Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) returns to Woodsboro

Ghostface will return to Woodsboro. Paramount and Spyglass have announced that the reboot of ‘Scream’ started this 2022 will have a continuation, thanks to box office results that have surpassed those of recent successes in the genre such as ‘Halloween Kills‘.

The artistic trio Radio Silence will once again be at the controls of the new installment, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing and Chad Villella as executive producer. This group of young filmmakers, who began to make a name for themselves in the world of horror thanks to their short films in the anthologies ‘V/H/S’ and ‘Southbound‘, they hit the ball with the great ‘Wedding Night’, and from there they went directly to revitalize the saga created by Wes Craven.

Kevin Williamsonscreenwriter of the original, will also repeat as producer, while the script for ‘scream 6‘ will once again be in charge of those responsible for the reboot script, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

The fifth installment of the slasher ‘Scream’ has already raised cclose to 134 million dollars worldwidewidely exceeding its budget of 24 million and the previous installment of the saga, Scream 4‘, which amassed 97 million in 2011.

‘Scream 6’ release date: When will Ghostface return?

Considering the production times after the recent announcement, we expected ‘Scream 6’ for the first half of 2024 or the end of 2023. We were too pessimistic and it is that we have to expect much less than what many bet. ‘Scream 6’ has set its premiere date for March 31, 2023At least as far as the United States is concerned. Of course, it is to be expected that the release date in Spain, if it is not the same, will be very similar.

The creators of ‘Scream 5’ already announced during the promotion of the film that they had planned a trilogy to unite the new characters with the old ones, so the draft has to be ready. It would only be necessary to polish it, square agendas and, if they have not already signed, convince all the stars to come back.

The new group of teenagers that introduces the fifth installment of the saga have to return, since the producers had planned the sequels and it is very clear who survives and who does not so that we know which characters we will meet in the next film. We are talking about Melissa Barrera as Sam, Jenna Ortega as Tara, Mason Gooding as Chad, and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy.

Those who will not return, unless there is a crazy script twist, will be the deceased characters in ‘Scream 5’. Mikey Madison, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette and Sonia Ben Ammar will not be returning to Woodsboro as their characters Amber, Richie, Wes and Liv are dead.

And of course we have to talk about the original trio. The death of Dewey (David Arquette) caught us by surpriseand it is to be hoped that the actor will not be in the next installment unless it is in the form of flashbacks or visions (it would not be the first time).

Courtney Cox already declared that he would love to return: “That would be nice, though I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this. What a fun experience to have such a long movie series and feel completely invigorated in a new way. It’s a relaunch, not a fifth episode.”

Now, thanks to some statements on the ‘Just for Variety with Marc Malkin’ podcast, we already have confirmation from the actress herself: “I received the script yesterday, and I haven’t read it yet, I just received it and I really want to read it. I don’t know if I should say something. Let me tell you who the killer is…“

For its part, Neve Campbell is playing hard to get: “They have already contacted me, although there is no script yet. I have been told that there is a draft that will be given to me soon. Precisely a producer was supposed to call me since he wants to talk to me about what’s going on. But we’ll see. I’ll read the script first and then see how I feel.“

What we fans did not expect was Kirby’s long-awaited return (Hayden Panettiere)the heroine of the fourth installment, although an easter-egg from ‘Scream 5’ already let us see that the character had survived to Ghostface’s attack.

Panettiere had only worked on two feature films after ‘Scream 4’, ‘The Forger’ (2012) and ‘Custody’ (2016), focused on his main role in the series ‘Nashville’ between 2012 and 2018. Since then, the actress seemed retired… Until now.

‘Scream 6’ synopsis: What will the film be about?

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures have not released pledge on the plot of the new ‘Scream 6’. Confirming the return of the interpreters Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortegathey only stated that the film “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface murders as they leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter in their lives.“.

At the moment, we are only clear about the slasher keys of any ‘Scream’ movie: Someone (or several) will dress up as ghost face and they will begin to murder a group of young people related to the survivors of the previous film. The characters will theorize about horror movies and their clichés. There will be blood, scares and lapidary phrases. The protagonist will have a final confrontation with the murderer(s), where she will reveal her evil plan before she dies. And, how could it be otherwise, we will have new material from the fictional saga ‘Puñalada’.
