Medvedev is scared, but goes to the round of 16 and faces Zverev in Indian Wells

The Russian gets his sixteenth consecutive victory

Number six in the world, the Russian Daniil Medvedev reached, this Sunday evening, a place in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, California, a tournament on hard courts with a prize pool of 8.8 million dollars.

The Russian beat the Belarusian Iliya Ivashka, 85th, after having scored 6/2 3/6 6/1 after 1h45min of duration on the main court of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, in the Californian city.

Daniil had an uneventful first set, but faltered in the second. During the break he moaned, went to the bathroom and came back with full concentration and a lot of aggression to dominate again and jump over his opponent.

This is the Russian’s sixteenth consecutive victory on the circuit. He comes from the ATP 500 titles in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and also won in Doha, Qatar. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic’s unbeaten run has ended.

Daniil equals his best result in the tournament, in 2021, when he stopped in the round of 16. And he will face, on Tuesday, the German Alexander Zverev, 14th classified and former top 3, overtaken in exhaustion by the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori by 7/5 1/6 7/5. It will be the tiebreaker between the two. Each won six games. The last match was at the end of 2021 at the ATP World Finals with the triumph of the German.
