The Oscars are a traditional awards show that has taken its place in the global event calendar for decades. But how was the Oscar born?
The Oscars, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, had their first edition in 1929, with the awards ceremony held on May 16 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.
In this first edition, films from 1927, the year the Academy was founded, to 1928 were evaluated. The idea of creating the award came from the inauguration of the Academy itself, the result of the efforts of film industry leaders, primarily Louis B. Mayer, president of the prestigious MGM.
