In an exclusive interview with Site Perfil, the Pontiff, who is entering his first decade at the head of the Catholic Church, smiles when speaking of Brazil and the joy of Brazilians.
Even if the text was wrong, it made itself understood: speaking of Brazil, Pope Francis, who is celebrating 10 years at the head of the Catholic Church, hummed the carnival march “Do you think cachaça is water?” during an exclusive interview with the reporter George Fontevecchia, Profile site CEO.
When asked why he always smiles when he mentions the word Brazil, he explained: “In Brazil, Carnival starts early in the year until Good Friday. I always think of the Brazilians, in that song ‘they say that cachaça is water, I don’t think so’, that’s what the Brazilians are rich in”, he replied.
Pope Francis also spoke of the trip he made to Brazil in 2013, the first after assuming the pontificate, and recalled the resignation of the Pope Bento XVI.
“It was predefined (one trip). Also, one of the reasons Bento made the decision was that he no longer felt strong enough to take that trip. So he said, ‘No, I won’t do that trip,’ and for a previous year he worked on it, and on February 11 he resigned”the Pope said.
