The Ministry of Health decides to bring forward the start of the flu vaccination in the North to March. The idea is to anticipate the rainy season that hits the region
The Ministry of Health will anticipate the national flu vaccination in the Northern region, as announced by the folder last Friday (10). In total, 6.5 million doses will be sent from this week, which are expected to be applied to risk groups, such as the elderly, pregnant women, indigenous peoples, military and health workers, by the end of March.

For the other part of Brazil, the doses of the flu vaccine will be applied from April. Like the North, the other regions should focus on vaccinating risk groups for the disease which can lead to death, depending on the capacity of the individual’s immune system. If there are doses left in stock, immunization is open to all audiences.
Why will the flu vaccination start in the North?
The anticipation of the flu vaccination in the North will take place due to the intense rainy season that the region has historically faced since April. In this scenario, the consequences of the rain can prevent the population, especially those who live in more isolated places, from receiving vaccinations.
It is a strategy that aims to facilitate access to vaccination, while keeping the greatest number of people protected from the flu. “Brazil is very unequal and you cannot have a single vaccination schedule,” said Health Minister NĂsia Trindade.

Vaccines distributed by SUS in Brazil
In addition to the flu vaccination, the Ministry of Health, through the Unified Health System (SUS), coordinates the immunization campaign against covid-19 (focused on booster doses) AND against Mpox (monkey pox). Primary Health Units (UBS) also vaccinate against specific diseases throughout the year and, therefore, it is worth checking your vaccination record to keep your protective doses up to date.
