The Dragons must overturn the Italian side’s lead at home
This Tuesday, at 17:00 (Brasilia time), Porto receives the Inter Milan at the Estádio do Dragão for the second leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The Italians have conquered an important 1-0 victory in the first leg, with a goal from Lukaku in the final minutes of the match, and they are just one draw away from qualifying for the next stage. OR Port need to win by two goals away to qualify; a triumph on goal difference takes the match into extra time, with the dispute possibly going to penalties afterwards.
NICE MEMORIES
The last two round of 16 of the Portuguese against Italian teams ended in the Dragons’ standings with the right to comeback: in 2019 Porto lost against Roma, away from home, 2-1, but returned the score in Portugal and scored another in extra time, leaving with the vacancy; in 2021, it was Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus turn to fall as boss. Porto won the first match 2-1, and Velha Senhora achieved the same result in Turin, but after extra time, one goal per team and Porto are classified on the away goals criterion.
UNCOMFORTABLE FASTING
Inter have not reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League since the 2010-11 season, when they lost to Raúl González’s Schalke 04. A year earlier he had been champion under the command of José Mourinho, who now commands rival Roma. A draw was enough for the Nerazzurri to break the 12-year spell, as Lukaku scored the decisive goal in the 41st minute of the first leg.
