Italy and Brazil are climate partners, says the president of the CNR

Carrozza underlines that it is necessary to anticipate events

In times of climate change, there is a large field of joint work to be developed between Italy and Brazil, says the president of the National Research Council (CNR), the Italian Maria Chiara Carrozza, who is in Brasilia this Tuesday (14) visiting the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa).

One of the objectives of the visit is to explore the work that can be developed by Italians and Brazilians in sectors such as precision agriculture, robotics and biotechnology.

“Brazil has a very important role in the fight against climate change. It has many protected areas in the Amazon and other regions, which represent the capital for Brazil and for the whole world,” the scientist said in an interview with ANSA .

Collaboration between researchers from both countries can contribute to the fight against climate change, underlines Carrozza, the first woman to become president of the CNR.

“We need to develop scientific models that are able to anticipate climatic events that did not exist before. In Italy there are unprecedented phenomena and we have no models to prevent them”, continues the former Minister of Education, University and Research the government Enrico Letta ( 2013-2014).

“We must anticipate the impact of human and social activities on the environment, especially in protected areas” in Brazil, says Carrozza, who yesterday discussed it with the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, as part of the il National Forum of the Council of State Secretaries for Science, Technology and Innovation (Consecti).

“I will bring many positive signals to Italy and Italy needs to rediscover Brazil”, Carrozza points out, announcing that, in this context of rapprochement, Italy could welcome Brazilian professionals, as well as send its researchers to the Amazon. .
