Luther The Fallen Sun : the hero facing his worst enemy
In bad shape at the end of the fifth season, the famous London policeman played by Idris Elba returns in a feature film, Luther: The fallen sun. In this film written by series creator Neil Cross and directed by Jamie Payne, the hero is behind bars whena serial killer played by Andy Serkis sets out to provoke himby sending him recordings of him torturing his victims.

An assassin who tries to humiliate Luther after crossing him at the crime scene. Mad with rage, the hero manages to escape and begins to follow him through the streets of the English capital, himself being pursued by the brigade of Odette Raine (Cynthia Erivo) and her former superior Martin Schenk (Dermot Crowley). This of course leads to frantic and bloody chaseswhich will lead the protagonist to Norway.
A next film for the London policeman?
John Luther therefore leaves his usual environment in this feature film which takes on more of the “superheroic” abilities of the ex-cop with a legendary flair and still dressed up in his famous gray coat. What drives its interpreter Idris Elba to want to continue embodying it in a series of films that would take it even further. WARNING, the following lines contain spoilers! This is what the final scene suggests, where the ex-cop is recruited for special missions by a mysterious employer called “Chef”.
In an interview given to Colliderthe actor said:
I think if we continue this film franchise, it would be great to see what we could do in different scenarios. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Luther in Chile or Luther in Los Angeles? Wouldn’t that be great?

For his part, screenwriter Neil Cross is also ready to continue the saga, as he confided RadioTimes.com :
Without the slightest hesitation. We have deliberately left the door more than ajar, it is a real open door. And it’s also an invitation.
