Adam Driver has been working on a Ben Solo film for several years
When Disney relaunched the cinematic universe Star Wars with The Force awakens in 2015, Adam Driver was introduced in the role of Kylo Renan antagonist he turned out to be Ben Solo, son of Han Solo and Princess Leia. He then played this character twice. First for episode VIII of the series, The Last Jedithen for episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker.
At the end of The Rise of Skywalker, Ben redeems himself by giving his life to save Rey after their fight against Palpatine. The character then dies at the end of this ninth episode. Still, Adam Driver wanted to bring him back in a new film that would come later Star Wars 9and of which Ben would be the main character. The actor even stopped by several years to develop such a film.
Lucasfilm was seduced by the story of Steven Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt
This was during a recent interview with The associated press Adam Driver revealed his Ben Solo movie plan. The actor explained that he talked about this possibility starting from 2021. That is to say two years after the release of The Rise of Skywalker. And he went further contacting Steven Soderbergh for help with this film.

Following this, Steven Soderbergh has started working on a story with Rebecca Bluntthe screenwriter of Lucky Logan with whom he shares his life. The couple even pitched the idea to Kathleen Kennedythe head of Lucasfilm, as well as vice president Gary Beck and the head of creation Dave Filoni. The trio introduced themselves interested in this idea of history.
Disney discontinued the project
After receiving approval from the heads of Lucasfilm, Steven Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt were recruited Scott Z. Burns (Side effects) to write the complete screenplay for the film. And according to Adam Driver, that delivered “one of the best plots I’ve been a part of”. The team then submitted this script to Lucasfilm, who “beloved”. According to the actor, “They totally understood our point of view and why we were doing it”. Unfortunately, Disney bosses were not of this opinion :
We showed it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And everything stopped there.
