Winning an Oscar can change the lives of many actors or solidify successful careers. But one nomination is often enough to garner attention in the film industry and also earn a kit of goodies offered by Distinctive Assets, a company not associated with the Oscar Academy.
El País shared details on the gift kit distributed each year to Oscar nominees, with “gifts” given to each of up to US$123,000, which is roughly R$646,000 at the current exchange rate.
However, not all candidates receive this gift. Only the performers nominated in the acting categories – Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress – as well as the nominees for Best Direction and Event Host win the kit.
Within the Oscar 2023 “kit”, the biggest prize is a three-night stay worth US$40,000 (roughly R$210,000) in a luxury hotel in Canada. The accommodation includes a refrigerator stocked with gourmet food and the possibility to drive luxury cars available for hire, offered free of charge to actors, directors and emcee.
Additionally, applicants win a three-night stay in an Italian hotel for up to seven guests, a one-square-metre plot of land in Australia from the Pieces of Australia conservation project, and aesthetic procedures such as liposuction, hair restoration consultation , peels, laser rejuvenation and even botox.
Check out the list of “treats” given to Oscar nominees:
Despite receiving the kit, each candidate must decide whether to use the vouchers for each stay. This is important because the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) treats these treats as taxable income. Therefore, whoever decides to accept the gifts will have to declare them in the income tax.
The 2023 Oscar ceremony took place last Sunday (12), and had the film All everywhere at the same time like a big winner. See the complete list of awardees.
