Scream 6 breaks franchise box office record in Brazil

Ghostface is back and breaking franchise records Panic in Brazil. the first of Scream 6 set a new box office record for the franchise in its first week of showing, taking the position of the biggest opening and biggest circuit for a horror film in the country.

The film premiered last Thursday March 9, taking first place at the Brazilian box office, exceeding 12 million reais in its first week of screening. An estimated 618,000 people went to theaters to see the sixth film of the classic sharpcementing itself as the biggest opening for a film in the series.

Additionally, the feature became the largest opening for a film with an indicative rating of 18 and also the largest horror film circuit in the country, with 709 theaters.

The Brazilian record wasn’t the only one broken by the film. Scream 6 it also had the franchise’s biggest opening at the global box office with $67.1 million, surpassing Scream 3 as the largest in the series. The return of the franchise has achieved the best score, in addition to Brazil and at the global box office, in other markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, Italy and the Netherlands.

The film tells how, after the latest deaths caused by the classic villain of the franchise, Ghostface, four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a new chapter of their lives in the big city of New York.

Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox return to their characters in the franchise along with Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving.

Scream 6 directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and distributed by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group.

Synopsis of Scream 6: “Sam, Tara, Chad and Mindy, the four survivors of the massacre committed by Ghostface, decide to leave Woodsboro in search of a new start in New York. But it doesn’t take long for them to become the target of a new serial killer.”

The film is playing in Brazilian cinemas.
