Director Ridley Scott is producing a sequel to the acclaimed Gladiator, a 2000 epic film starring Russell Crowe which won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the time. Now, with production moving forward, the film is assembling a cast that promises to make waves in Hollywood.
Paul Mescal will enter the arena as the film’s lead. However, since the new untitled film is not a prequel, but a sequel, he will not be playing Maximus, Crowe’s character. Instead, he will play Lucius, the son of Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen in the original film.
The actor was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor this year for his role as a troubled father after sunand wowed the audience with his portrayal of an intelligent college student in the series Normal peoplewhich earned him an Emmy nomination.

In addition to Mescal, Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner Barry Keoghan is in talks to join the sequel. Gladiatorwhere he would play the role of the film’s main antagonist, the Roman emperor Geta.
Ridley Scott will produce along with Michael Pruss, president of Scott Free, and Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment. The screenplay is signed by David Scarpa and the film will be produced by Paramount. Once completed, Universal, which co-produced the first film with DreamWorks, will have the co-production rights.

Last but not least, Ridley Scott may be getting another big name in his cast. Denzel Washington is in final talks to join the film, reprising a partnership with Scott formed in 2007 with American gangster.
If the deals are finalized, the film will star three Oscar-nominated actors, as well as Washington, who has won the award twice in his career.
the sequence of Gladiator will be released in theaters on November 22, 2024.
