Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill is being treated for cancer: ‘I’m not afraid to die’


Actor Sam Neill, known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park – Dinosaur Park, is being treated for blood cancer.

Actor Sam Neill, who rose to fame for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the classic Jurassic Park – Jurassic Park (1993), has revealed that he is being treated for stage three blood cancer. According to The Guardian, this information is in his memoir ‘Did I Ever Tell You This’, to be published in the UK.



“The thing is, I’m a cheater. Maybe I’m dying. Maybe I need to speed things up. [o livro]”, writes the actor in the first chapter of his autobiography. In an interview with The Guardian, Sam Neill says that he began writing these memoirs as a way to keep busy during treatment – which began last year.

“I found myself with nothing to do. I’m used to work. I love to work. I love to go to work. I love to be with people every day and enjoy human company and friendship and everything. And suddenly I was deprived and I have thought: “What should I do?” I’ll write about it tomorrow… it will amuse me”. And it was really lifesaver, because I couldn’t have gone through it with nothing to do, you know,” she explains.

Sam Neill felt the first symptoms in the promotion of Jurassic World: Dominion




Sam Neill first felt his swollen glands during the press tour for the film Jurassic World: Dominion in March 2022 and was later diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. The actor had chemotherapy, but in he later began using a new chemotherapy drug which he will continue to receive monthly for the rest of his life. The Guardian further reinforces that the cancer is now in remission.

“I can’t pretend that senior year didn’t have my dark moments. But those dark moments shed light in a big way, you know, and they’ve left me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. I’m just glad to be alive,” the actor completes on his happiness to be alive.

Sam Neill became famous for his role in The Piano (1993) and, mainly, as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park – Jurassic Park (1993) – a character he revived in Jurassic Park 3 (2001) and more recently, in Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) alongside the returns of Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. The actor was in The Hunt for Red October (1990), On the Edge of Madness (1994), Enigma from the Horizon (1997), as well as the series Merlin, The Tudors and Peaky Blinders. He has been part of the MCU as an actor playing Odin in Asgard, in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
