Real attacking Barcelona with the title at stake, says Ancelotti

Real Madrid will not hold out in El Clásico against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday as they look to close the nine-point gap on their arch rivals at the top of La Liga.

Barça would take a big step towards winning their first title in four years by beating the champions for the third time in a row.

“We will play attacking football on Sunday. Without taking any risks, we will go on the attack,” Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said at a press conference on Saturday.

“The team is doing very well, we’re in a good moment, even mentally. But we’ve also improved a lot technically and tactically.”

Sunday will be the second of three clashes in just over a month.

After losing 3-1 to their main rivals in the Spanish Super Cup final, Real were defeated 1-0 in their first match of the Copa del Rey semi-final by Barcelona with a pragmatic defensive plan.

“What I see is a very solid Barça, a team that concedes very little, with an important collective commitment. They suffered a little more than usual, but they won that game,” said Ancelotti.

“But they defended like this because they managed to take the lead straight away. Sunday’s match could be different, depending on what happens at the beginning of the game.”

Barcelona have won 21 of their 25 league games this season, losing just one of their last 16 games.

They are the second highest scoring team in the competition with 47 goals and have league top scorer Robert Lewandowski with 15 goals, but the basis of their success has been at the other end of the pitch.

They have conceded just eight league goals, by far the best defending record in Europe’s top five leagues.
