Djimon Hounsou feels “ripped off” by his salary

The ‘Shazam 2’ actor continues to struggle to make a dollar in Hollywood.

djimon hounsou, actor who we can see in ‘Shazam! The Fury of the Gods’ from DC, lamented wage inequality which he has faced throughout such a celebrated career. A voice that joins that of many others such as that of Dallas Howard in ‘Jurassic World’ or that of Jennifer Lawrence who gave her opinion a few months ago on the wage gap.

Nominated for two Oscars in the category of Best Supporting Actor thanks to his performances in the 2002 drama ‘In America’ and in the 2006 thriller ‘Blood Diamond’Apparently, the Beninese-American is still struggling to “make a dollar.”

“I’ve come up in the business with some people who are absolutely well off and have very little of my praise,” he told ‘Guardian’. “So I feel cheated, tremendously cheated, in economic terms and also in terms of workload.”

Hounsou explains: “I’ve been to meetings with studios and they’ve said, ‘Wow, we thought you just got here and then you came back. [después de ‘Amistad’, su película revelación con Steven Spielberg]. We didn’t know you were a real actor.'”

“When you hear stuff like that, you realize that some people’s view of you, or what you stand for, is very limited. But it is what it is. It’s up to me to redeem that.”

“I still have to prove why I have to get paid. I’m always approached with a complete low offer: ‘We only have this much for the part, but we love you so much and we really believe you can bring so much…'”

“Viola Davis said it beautifully: She’s won an Oscar, she’s won an Emmy, she’s won a Tony, and she’s still unpaid. Movie after movie, it’s a struggle. I have not yet met the film that pays me fairly“.
