It all stems from a bad experience in one of his movies.
Despite the fact that everything pointed to Ben Affleck preparing his return to DC, the protagonist of ‘Justice League’ has discarded categorically direct any movie inside from the DC Universe.
An actor above all – he has played one of the best Batman throughout six films, including future ‘Flash’ and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ – Affleck is also an enthusiastic filmmaker, having directed ‘The Town’ and ‘ Argo’.
However, despite James Gunn’s plans at DC, this will not tempt the star to return to that universe, leaving him out of the new DC movies and series that James Gunn has announced.
“I wouldn’t direct something for Gunn’s DC. Absolutely not”Affleck told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’.
“I have nothing against James Gunn. He’s a good guy, he’s going to do a great job for sure. I just wouldn’t want to come in and coach the way they’re doing. I’m not interested in that.”
It’s hard not to relate his indifference to the damage done by ‘Justice League’.
He went on to comment: “‘Justice League’… You could give a seminar on all the reasons why you shouldn’t make a movie. From production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy to ending with a taste of most monstrous mouth”.
This comes after Affleck revealed that his friend and regular collaborator Matt Damon helped him to solve some things after ‘Justice League’.
“I had a very negative experience with ‘Justice League’ for many reasons. I don’t blame anyone, a lot happened. But the truth is that he was not happy. I didn’t like being there“he said last year.
“I didn’t find it interesting. And then some really terrible things happened. But that’s when I thought, ‘I’m not going to do it again.’ I actually talked to Matt about it and he was one of the main influences in making that decision. I want to do the things that bring me happiness.”
