The BBB 23 award exceeds R$ 2 million: see income in savings

Find out how much the amount invested in savings, Selic Treasury and CDB with daily liquidity returns per month

This week, the prize for the 23rd edition of Big Brother Brazil passed the 2 million mark. The amount at the beginning of the program was the same as in past editions, R$ 1.5 million. But at BBB 23 the prize grows throughout the program and can end up getting even bigger.

See the return on savings and other fixed income assets, with calculations from financial planner Jaiana Cruz, partner at AVG Capital.

What is the monthly income of R$2.1 million in savings and other fixed income assets (net, i.e. after deducting income tax):

  • • Savings: BRL 14,910.00
  • • Selic Treasury: BRL 17,577.00
  • • CDB with daily liquidity: BRL 17,739.75

Savings is an income tax-free investment, but even with a 22.5% IR discount, other fixed-income assets have a higher yield, Jaiana Cruz points out. Another detail is that these investments follow the regressive income tax schedule: the longer the investment period, the lower the tax.

The previous premium would have the following monthly net income:

  • • Savings: BRL 10,650.00
  • • In the Selic Treasury: BRL 12,550.00
  • • In a CDB with daily liquidity (101.75% of the CDI): BRL 12,671.25

Thus, an increase of BRL 600,000 in the premium allows for an income of approximately BRL 4,000 per month, in savings, and more than BRL 5,000 in Treasury Selic or CDB.

The value of the premium still does not exceed inflation

The last time Globo updated the BBB prize was in 2010, when it went from R$1 million to R$1.5 million. For now, the value has not yet beaten the inflation accumulated over the period, according to Jaiana Cruz’s calculations. The updated premium based on the HICP only from January 2010 to November 2022 would be BRL 3,198,355.65.
