Rumors are getting more and more persistent: Pedro Almodovar should be in Cannes to open his new film Extraña forma de vida, starring Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke.

While the Cannes Film Festival hasn’t confirmed the news, it’s safe to say the short will be screened, as Pedro Almodovar himself has given us the scoop. As part of a podcast with singer Dua Lipa.

This film selection promises a great red carpet, with the return of festival stalwart Pedro Almodóvar alongside an engaging cast: Pedro Pascal, who carries the success of The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, and Ethan Hawke, recently seen in Moon Knight on Disney+.

The plot of Strange Way of Life looks like this: a sheriff named Jake da Silva lives across the desert. These two men have not seen each other for 25 years. One of them crosses this wild place to find the other…

It will be a western where masculinity will be talked about, but I don’t want to label it. I don’t know what people think of it as a western. I’d say it’s a queer westernPedro Almodovar confided in the podcast with Dua Lipa.

Pedro Almodovar is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival: with the presentation of Pain and Glory in 2019, it was already the 6th choice in the official competition for the Spanish filmmaker, after All About My Mother (1999), Volver (2006), Broken Embraces. 2009), La Piel que habito (2011) and Julieta (2016).

A very popular director at Cannes but yet to win the top prize, Pedro Almodovar has also served on the jury twice, including once as president in 2017.
