‘The Last of Us’ gives first look at its second season: reveals how a protagonist will die

“The Last of Us” is the post-apocalyptic series starring Pedro Pascal (as Joel) and Bella Ramsey (as Ellie) available on the HBO Max streaming platform from January 15, 2023.

His final episode aired on March 12, 2023, leaving many to wonder if Joel was actually the villain of the story. Although through the other chapters the creators left hints about the second season, which led the fans to speculate what they will see on their screens.

“The Last of Us” Season 2 already has its first promotional image

Neil Drukmann is not only the co-chairman of Naughty Dog (the video game company that created “The Last of Us” in 2014), but he is also the executive producer of the HBO Max series. For this reason, he was responsible for revealing the first promotional image of the second season to Internet users on March 19, 2023 with the following message for fans: “There is no ‘The Last of Us’ on HBO tonight. But season 2 is already on the way! Stay there and survive!”

Due to the fact that the series of ‘The Last of Us’ is very faithful to the video game (even tracing some scenes), those who played the second part identified the leg of the promotional image as that of Abigail ‘Abby’ Anderson.

This is a character that did not appear in the first season, because it becomes relevant in the second installment of the game. The reason? The doctor Joel killed in the Fireflies surgery to save Ellie was her father, so the girl decides to get revenge.

Over the years ‘Abby’ manages to track Joel down and after a series of coincidences lead to them being in a room together, she tortures him to death in front of Ellie.

This is how fans reacted to the first image of “The Last of Us 2”

Knowing that “Abby” will be part of the second season, many netizens begged the producer not to kill Pedro Pascal’s character or at least not to do it in the first episodes to see a little more of the history of the series.

Others have already resigned themselves to Joel’s fate and even created memes about the situation, like the one below that takes a scene from “SpongeBob SquarePants” to satirize.

There were also those who remembered the death of Oberyn Martell, a character played by Pedro Pascal in the HBO series “Game of Thrones”, and compared it to the one that Joel will have in “The Last of Us 2”.

And it is that as it is a key plot for the story progression in the second season, many netizens have already loved Pedro Pascal as Joel, which is why they are expressing their displeasure to see his possible end on screen.
